Our Cannonball adventure has started! A quick reprise of what has led
up to this moment;

Very early last November the route and dates of Scooter Cannonball
2012[1] were published - and it looked as though I'd be in the US at the
time. My eyes lit up - Kristin noticed the signs and added "If you're
thinking of doing that, I will too!" - and so our destiny unfolded.

A huge amount of preparation has had to go into this - getting scooters
shipped to the US east coast, getting gear together, making sure Kristin
doesn't starve in the Deep South (where 'Vegan' means chicken instead of
steak apparently), flights, tools, spares, clothes...

But all that is now done, and I'm sitting on the balcony of Kristin's
Aunt and Uncle's house in Occaquan Virginia, having flown in from San
Francisco yesterday. We're starting by riding two-up on her scooter
(due to arrive on Tuesday, long story) down the Blue Ridge Parkway
before veering off to the Cannonball start in Savannah Georgia by Friday
night, where I'll be re-united with my scooter that'll have been brought
over on our support truck. The actual event start is on Sunday - bring
it on!

The best place to get a flavour of the event as it unfolds is on the
main Modern Vespa forum thread[2] - I'm also intermittently writing a
blog[3] and if you want, you can follow our progress via our SPOT
Messenger link[4]. Kristin will be carrying the spot, so although
labelled as 'me' - in fact it'll be Kristin's location and times that
are published. I'll hope to be miles ahead.

Now to compile a list of folk to send this to!
